easter2014poster_edited-1-2

Come & join us at our studios in Welcombe this Easter and treat yourself to something handmade & beautiful.
4 studios will be open showing a selection of handmade work on April 18th, 19th & 20th {10.30am to 4pm}

Koa Tree StudioKim Mudge: My inspirations are the sea and natural environment, I love colour and texture often using glittering mediums. I tend to work on many pieces at the same time. At the moment im working on a new collection of work all created since moving to welcombe, using oil on canvas and letting the abstract colours flow and develop as I work.

Welcombe PotteryDavid Westcott: I produce a wide range of work, mostly domestic pottery, using earthenware, stoneware and porcelain clays. Jugs, bowls and mugs in a variety of glazes.
Alice Gare: Inspired by the vivid colours of the sea, I remake aspects of our coastline in kiln-formed glass, fusing metals and organic objects into the glass.

pachadesignglenn rushbrooke & samantha robb: we are a design/make partnership specializing in contemporary furniture & objects from locally sourced reclaimed & natural resources. Our work evolves from a simplistic approach to design & the materials that we use {oak, slate & metal}, combining pared down aesthetics with the japanese view of wabi sabi, beauty in imperfection.

Paul Jenner – my aim is to capture the beauty of the familiar using natural light and a passion for my subject – the world around us. Creating simple, uncluttered compositions & a sense of peace & stillness, I love to capture vibrant colour & use my artistic eye to wonderful effect. I will be exhibiting a beautiful selection of canvas prints, large framed prints, mounted prints & gift cards.

Welcombe Open Studios 2013

leafletfront2013
Now in it’s 8th year, Welcombe Open Studios 2013 gives you the opportunity to visit the studios & exhibitions of artists, designers & makers in this beautiful village on the North Devon coast.  This years event has 9 artists showcasing their work – including photography, art, pottery, textiles, furniture, glass & more.  The 3 day event gives you the chance to see where the artists create their work and to buy directly from them or commission them.  For many of the artists this is the only event where they open their studios to the public.

All artists will be showing new work this year and we also have a gallery in a tipi, a multi projection installation, and 2 new artists taking part – Nic Waltho Creative Textiles and Vicky Stafford Glass Fusions.
More new additions to this years event is The PhoneBox Gallery – a little pop-up gallery held in Welcombe’s old red phone box showing art made especially for the event by the residents of the village & the much anticipated Welcombe’s Pop-Up Tea Room will be launching their first event during the 3 days – enjoy delicious homemade cakes & biscuits and fresh coffee, tea & milkshakes.  This year will also see the return of the National Trust Art on the Beach day where families can join artist Tom Hyde and National Trust Rangers for some hands on craft activities on Welcombe Beach {Friday only}.

This years event takes place on the 26th, 27th & 28th July.  All studios will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm, with the exception of number 5 at Welcombe Beach which is open on Friday 26th only from 10am – 3pm.

All studios are within walking distance of each other but all have parking facilities if you do intend to drive – all studios will be signposted from the A39 and around the village.  Detailed leaflets with a map to find all studios will be available from the local shop as you drive into Welcombe, The Old Smithy Inn, the village hall, Welcombe Pottery and all studios.  Or if you would prefer us to post you one please email us at info@pachadesign.co.uk or telephone us on 01288 331505.

When planning your visit please remember that most studios do not have credit card facilities, so can only accept payments by cash or cheques.  The nearest cash machines are at Hartland and Kilkhampton.

My work is influenced by colour, texture and pattern from my local environment.
Often depicting memory and family history or evoking the sense of a particular place.
The manipulation of media and textile techniques plays an important role in the tactile qualities of my work.
All pieces are individual according to the papers, fabric and found objects that I incorporate into the piece.

My Right Eye: Photographs & Multi-Media
My Right Eye is a collection of photographic images & sounds focussing on my favourite subject matters; The Coastline & Landscape of North Devon.  In the past I have worked to produce printed images but this year I have been developing a new project combining imagery, video & gathered sound in the form of a multi projection installation.  My photography is all about looking for abstraction, the unexpected & the balance of shape and form in things we see everyday or take for granted.

My work involves the use of rich colour & optical trickery to create depth & movement.  I use a strange drawing machine known as a twin elliptic harmonograph, which creates very
fine & complex images (and no, it’s not like a spirograph).  My studio will take a little longer to get to than the others but hopefully it will be worth the 10 minutes drive along the beautiful coast road.
